Thomas Guise solicitors were recently invited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants to address its members on recent developments in the law affecting the care home sector.
The event was organised by the Healthcare Group of the ICAEW and took place at the Chartered Accountants’ Hall in London.
Thomas Guise director Wayne Thomas gave a presentation that covered a number of issues that affect care home operators and their professional advisers. These included:
• Changes in the regulatory structure with the coming of the Care Quality Commission
• Deprivation of liberty safeguards
• Disciplinary and grievance procedures under the Employment Act 2008
• Contractual implications of a resident’s death
• The implications of the Turnball decisions on the provision of supported living.
Wayne’s presentation was part of a busy afternoon that included contributions by Richard Taylor, director of GVA Grimley and Ian Crompton, head of healthcare at Lloyds TSB.
We are grateful to the ICAEW for their hospitality and look forward to working with them on healthcare events in the future.
