Shelley Bonney, is ‘bonny’ indeed with the last stage of her legal training within sight. 32 year-old Shelley is now on the home straight to qualifying as a trainee solicitor at Thomas Guise Solicitors Foregate Street practice. Shelley joined the city based law firm after working for nearly a decade in local government.
She so wanted to pursue a legal career that she committed herself to several years’ additional study as well as holding down a full time job to achieve this dream. “I think I must be addicted to studying as it seems I have had my head in a text book for years.
After college I went on to study a degree in English Literature and Philosophy with the Open University, Common Professional Examination (CPE) Postgraduate in Law, plus a Legal Practice Course (LPC),” says Shelley. For the last stage of Shelley’s training she will need to gain some hands-on experience in various areas of law, known as ‘seats’.
Fortunately she will be able to do just this at Thomas Guise who offer comprehensive litigation, commercial, corporate and family law services. Once she has obtained the relevant experience in the required number of ‘seats’ she will need to pass a final professional skills examination. Shelley will then be free to choose her specialist area in which to practice, at present it seems that she is favouring corporate law, which she finds particularly rewarding.
Wayne Thomas, a director at Thomas Guise says “I was impressed with Shelley from the start, anyone who undertakes the challenging CPE and LPC courses has to have a strong determination and desire to understand the complex English legal system, and to do this as well as working full-time shows a real depth of character. Shelley has already assisted me on a number of matters including a recent multi-million pound deal, which required a thorough and meticulous approach, which she has in abundance.”
Originally from Cornwall, Shelley moved to Worcester 14 years ago after meeting her husband who at the time lived in Worcester, they now live in Malvern. Both have undertaken lengthy degree courses but found the time to marry three years ago.
Thomas Guise are planning to expand their Worcester and Studley practices and so will be looking for more trainee solicitors to come on board in the near future. .
