Leading care home solicitors Thomas Guise recently co-hosted a seminar for care home providers from Worcestershire and the West Midlands. The event was held with Lloyds TSB and Christie + Co in the beautiful surroundings of the Chateau Impney near Droitwich. In a packed morning, presentations were given by various members of the Thomas Guise care home team to an audience of specially invited guests. Topics included the latest changes in legislation in disciplinary proceedings, protecting care home fee income and preparing a care home business for re-finance or sale. “We selected issues that would be of particular interest in the current climate and they generated a great deal of interest” said team leader Wayne Thomas. The legal presentations were complemented by key-note talks from a number of major players in the care sector. As the head of care homes at Lloyds TSB, Mark Ellis gave a much appreciated insight into the credit crunch and its affect on funding Linked to this was the contribution by Richard Lunn, the head of care at Christie + Co who provided a realistic overview of the market and care home values. Regulation and compliance are never far away from the thoughts of care home operators and the latest developments at the Care Quality Commission were addressed by Frank Ursell, the Chief Executive Officer of the Registered Nursing Home Association. At the end of the morning, the guests were rewarded with a buffet lunch and the opportunity to network with each other. Wayne Thomas commented “It was a great opportunity to catch up with existing clients and meet some new faces. We had really positive feed-back and are encouraged to organize something similar in the future”
